Southeastern’s Sims Library hosts a long awaited Book Sale

Hammond, LA (April 23, 2023) Southeastern’s Sims Library hosted a book sale for the first time in four years in honor of National Library Week.

This book sale was open through Tuesday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, April 27, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They accepted credit cards, debit cards and cash.

A student at Southeastern gave insight on the prices, “fairly cheap and a lot more accessible than going to a book store.” The prices for this sale were extremely affordable and convenient for college students. Small paperback books ($1), Large paperbacks/Hardbacks/ Textbooks ($2), DVDs ($2), CDs ($1) and Audiobooks ($1).

During this week, there were many activities for students, faculty and staff to enjoy. On Monday, the staff served cake in the lobby to celebrate everyone coming to the library. On Tuesday, there was a reading held located on the third floor that consisted of many books for those to choose. Lastly, on Thursday, there were readings of the late poet, David Bottoms, by Southeastern faculty.

“I heard about the book sale from a friend and posters around campus” Boudreaux said. “It was very organized where you can see exactly what genres to look for.”

Janel Boudreaux, a student at Southeastern, said she loved the book sale and will continue to visit if they were opening again next year.

“The workers were very welcoming and helped me find certain books and if they were available. I would recommend others to check it out next year because more people should know about it,” Boudreaux said.

Sophia Morgan, a student at Southeastern, shared her thoughts on the book sale and her experience.

Morgan first heard about the event through Lavender Lion's organization and found it a good opportunity for students to see books they cannot find in a bookstore. “Yes, I actually found a couple of art books that I’m going to use for my painting class,” Morgan said.

“I thought it was a fun thing for the university to hold and a good opportunity to hold and a good opportunity to find books related to my major,” she expressed.
