Hammond, LA (April 12, 2025) Project Hope is a student organization at Southeastern Louisiana University that recently held an event Words of Affirmations to help students with positive affirmations.

This event was held on April 1 at 5 p.m at the Student Union Room 2218. The event was open to all students who were struggling with being positive to themselves. The Words of Affirmation activity included sharing words of encouragement to the fellow attendees. The participants left with a full envelope of them to reread them later on.

Makaila Selders, president of Project Hope, shared her insight on the event and how it helps the students.

“It provides positive reinforcement and trains your mind to see things in a different light.”, Selders said.

“Something that happened that was memorable during this meeting was when at the end when everyone received their letters of affirmation and got to read, whatever everyone said about them was very priceless. It was such an uplifting event.”, Selders added.

She continued to say, “We will strive to have this event every semester. Continuing to post on our social media, talk about it with others at the university, and recruit at events on campus will give us an opportunity to gain awareness as a student organization.”

Ava Maynard, freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University shared her experience.

“I ran across Words of Affirmation on their Instagram account and decided to attend.” Maynard said.

Maynard continued to say, “After the event, I downloaded an app that sends me affirmations throughout the day.”

She added, “Reading or hearing such things have been emotional or even very aspiring. Just the simplest words really do change a person’s life.”

Simple words of affirmation are the first step to not only loving yourself but helping others love themselves.
