Yoga Therapy Returns at SLU Student Organization Project Hope
Hammond, LA (March 16, 2025) Southeastern Louisiana University student organization Project Hope will host its Annual Yoga Therapy Session for paid members.
This session will take place in the Pennington Rec Center on March 18 at 5 p.m. This will be for Project Hope members only, but if interested to participate, there’s a $25 fee to attend and will receive a free T-shirt with Project Hope organization logo. It will take place every spring semester at SLU.
This is the second year for the Yoga Therapy Session. No experience needed, and students are encouraged to bring a bottle of water and yoga mat, if owned.
Makalia Selders, president of Project Hope, shared her thoughts on the organization and knowledge about yoga.
“Yoga can help reduce stress because it promotes relaxation, which is the natural opposite of stress. Yoga can benefit three aspects of ourselves that are often affected by stress: our body, mind and breathing.” she said.
Selders continued to say, “We encourage more people to join project hope strictly because it is a great investment all together, not just for the yoga event. We host therapeutic activities to help everyone cope with their mental health, using healthy activities that will help make a difference when managing and trying to balance dealing with your mental health.”
She added, “I'm looking forward to getting some relaxation and hoping everyone is able to enjoy it as well, and just take a breather from the everyday norms.”
“Yoga is a great way to tackle stress because it combines physical movement, breath control and mindfulness,” She said.
Keyron Smith, a member of Project Hope, showed anticipation for the upcoming Annual Yoga Therapy Session.
“I expect to get peace of mind, relaxing my mind and body at this yoga session. What drew me to want to attend is the people and the organization itself,” he said.
Smith continued to say, “I’ve been a member of this organization since it, and I would love to see more events like this in the future.”
Smith shared other practices he uses to combat stress, anxiety etc.
“For me, making content, seeing friends and video games helps to relieve my stress and anxiety. I also do yoga on my own, so this session feels geared towards me,” He added.
Project Hope targets SLU students to help manage their stress and promote a healthy lifestyle.
