Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre brings on a classic tale of “Romeo and Juliet”

Hammond, LA (February 23, 2023) Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre will perform a William Shakespeare “Romeo and Juliet” classic tale on numerous dates.

This play will take place in Columbia Theatre, 220 E Thomas St. on March 10 and 17, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. and March 11 and 18, 2023 at 2 p.m. The tickets run up to $35 for adults and $15 for students.

This play is directed by Jennifer Bouquet, Ben Norman and Jim Winter.

Miguel Garcia, a Health Science major, who plays “Benvolio” in Romeo and Juliet, shares his experience with the preparations and what it means to him.

“Although a classic retelling, the direction team has been great at recognizing what they envision for the show, and turning it into reality.” Garcia said.

He mentioned his admiration for the play as well.

“But on a deeper level, this show means so much to me as a loved one. It's a beautiful story about trust, support, and of course, love, that I think will resonate with every audience member in some way.” he said.

“I want people to take away a new outlook on their interpersonal relationships. Really think about the people you love and why you love them. And make sure to hold onto them as tight as you can.” he added.

Kayla Matherne, a student at Southeastern Louisiana University, shows anticipation for the upcoming “Romeo and Juliet” play.

“I want to actually see the play itself because I have only read the book, so I want to see how everything plays out!”, she said. Matherne continues to say,“ It definitely is something exciting to me, and it is thanks to my friends for letting me know about it.”

“Romeo and Juliet” is a play that has been done numerous times, and Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre has decided to put on a classic retelling for fellow Southeastern students and adults.

On Saturday, March 11 there is a special dinner with Hammond’s Chef Ryan that will create a meal inspired by the story of Romeo and Juliet that goes along with the play with a price of $100. This play brings anticipation and interest to Southeastern students, so please come to see it for your own enjoyment.
