Communication Audit

Student Organization: Project Hope, led by Makaila Selders 

Products/Services: Project Hope is a student organization, started in January 2025, that allows students to give everyone on campus a “safe space” to cope with their feelings around others who may experience the same challenges. Although we have a counseling center, Selders wanted to add another avenue for students to have peer support and let them know they are not alone in their mental health. Each meeting for this organization, there are different therapeutic activities to help students to understand and cope with their feelings. Project Hope also provides different resources on campus and in our community students can utilize. 

Mission Statement: The organization focuses on supporting the mental health of all students at the university. The goal of the organization is to promote healthy coping strategies, provide self-care activities, and peer support, share helpful resources, and learn skills/gain knowledge through presenters. The organization will provide a peaceful, stress-free space for all Southeastern students.

Keywords: N/A. The Instagram account does not use any hashtags or phrases and very little to no emojis. 

Organization Goals for 2025: The goals for 2025 are to help spread awareness of the organization since it’s fairly new and to make sure everyone is aware of the resources and peer support they provide at their meetings. 

Publics: The organization welcomes everyone and mainly targets freshmen because college is stressful, and it can be tough on new students. 

• The organization members average between 18–22 years old. 

• They are currently slowly growing and there are currently under 5 male students in the organization. 

• The organization would love to have a collaboration with the international students on campus. 

Communication Channels Currently Being Utilized:  

• Instagram - @ sluprojecthope

• Project Hope started this account in February 2023. 

• There are 260 followers on the account and posts multiple times a month. 

• Currently, posts average between 15–60 likes, depending on content. 

Visual Marketing: 

• The visual marketing for the Instagram account is that it does not stick to one color palette. 

• The posts for Project Hope revolves around the different events it’s hosting and participating in. This may seem chaotic since no posts follow a certain palette or layout. 

Goals and Recommendations: 

• My recommendation for Project Hope is to be more active on Instagram to get more awareness and to branch out to more social media such as TikTok and to target to more of a male audience. 

• GOST: 

•        Goal: To provide a safe environment for students at Southeastern Louisiana University. 

  • Objective 1: Gain 400 followers on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok

    • Strategy 1: Expand attendance to social media platforms. 

      • Tactic 1: Create weekly content that does not involve posting only events.

      • Tactic 2: Collaborate with The Lion's Roar to spread awareness of the organization. 

      • Tactic 3: Create hashtags that correlate with the organization and content they are posting. 

    • Strategy 2:  Branch out to the TikTok platform. 

      • Tactic 1: Collaborate with SLU Comm department 

      • Tactic 2: Connect with students to share relatable content 

  • Objective 2: Gain 10 male students to join the organization 

    • Strategy 1: Utilize our male sports teams at SLU

      • Tactic 1: Collaborate with SLU male sports teams and make content. 

      • Tactic 2: Host an event that caters to the male sports audience. 

    • Strategy 2: Utilize June, which is men’s mental health month. 

      • Tactic 1: Create content on both social media platforms on Instagram and TikTok. 

      • Tactic 2: Collaborate with The Lion’s Roar to get a feature in the newsletter during the summer intersession.
